Burning Harry Potter, and Other Ways of Misreading Fantasy

What is fantasy literature about and why is it a major misreading to burn copies of Harry Potter?

Join Brian Attebery, Idaho Humanities Council presenter, as he looks at the way fantasy draws on traditions of myth and magic to create modern metaphors.

Attebery has received many honors for his work on science fiction, fantasy, and children’s literature, including the Science Fiction Research Association’s Pilgrim Award for lifetime achievement in scholarship in science fiction and fantasy and the Idaho Humanities Council’s Award for Outstanding Achievement in the Humanities.

Think you don't have the time or ability to learn to play an instrument? Think again!

Come pick up a ukulele and learn the basics that can help you in your quest to master any instrument. Experienced ukulele players will be here to help you understand strumming, chords, and progressions, with guidance and insight for musicians of all skill levels.

Adults and teens are welcome, middle school and up! This program is free and open to the public.

Everyone is invited to join us for Family Night at the Library.

Unplug and unwind with us as we play new board games, decorate cookies for the holidays and explore robots and STEM.
