CLN libraries resume offering limited services after flooding forced them to close in mid-January

Starting Wednesday, Post Falls and Athol Libraries will again offer one-on-one staff assistance, internet and Wi-Fi access, book browsing, hold pick up, and more. The library’s bookmobile will be parked in the Athol Library’s parking lot and the lobby and meeting room are being utilized at the Post Falls Library to provide these services.

“This reopening represents a significant step forward in restoring essential resources and community access to library facilities,” states Alexa Eccles, Community Library Network’s (CLN’s) Library Director. “We are committed to serving the community, even in the face of adversity.” These efforts underscore the library’s dedication to meeting the needs of its patrons despite challenges and maintaining its role as a vital resource within the community.

CLN has contracted with Compass Construction to ensure the efficient completion of the necessary repairs. This partnership signifies a commitment to timely restoration, enabling the library to resume full services as soon as possible. Compass Construction has an office in Hayden, Idaho. The library district’s insurance provider, Idaho Counties Risk Management Program (ICRMP), is expected to cover all construction repair costs, which are nearly $700,000; Athol and Post Falls construction costs are estimated at $197,000 and $504,000 respectively.

“While insurance coverage for construction repair costs alleviates some financial burden, the cost of replacing all damaged items remains a significant concern.” The uncertainty surrounding this adds to the challenges faced by the Community Library Network (CLN) in restoring full functionality to its services confirms Director Eccles. Efforts to address this issue have already included fundraising book sales and may involve seeking additional funding sources or exploring cost-saving measures to mitigate the impact on the library’s budget.

For the most up-to-date information on service availability and updates on construction progress, patrons are encouraged to check the library’s website and social media platforms. “CLN is commitment to transparency and communication helps maintain community engagement and support during the restoration process,” concludes Director Eccles.

Post Falls limited library services hours will be Monday – Saturday 11- 6 and Sunday 12 -5

Athol – bookmobile service hours will be Tuesday – Saturday 1-6
